{"id":1390,"date":"2012-08-31T14:38:51","date_gmt":"2012-08-31T14:38:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.thinmanager.com\/thinclients\/?p=1390"},"modified":"2014-09-15T09:02:44","modified_gmt":"2014-09-15T13:02:44","slug":"mailbag-friday-16","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.thinmanager.com\/thinclients\/?p=1390","title":{"rendered":"MailBag Friday (#16)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.thinmanager.com\/thinclients\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/ThinManager-Logo-144.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1514\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.thinmanager.com\/thinclients\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/ThinManager-Logo-144.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"144\" height=\"119\" \/><\/a>Every Friday, we dedicate this space to sharing solutions for some of the most frequently asked questions posed to our ThinManager Technical Support team. \u00a0This weekly feature will help educate ThinManager users and provide them with answers to questions they may have about licenses, installation, integration, deployment, upgrades, maintenance, and daily operation. \u00a0Great technical support is an essential part of the ThinManager platform, and we are constantly striving to make your environment as productive and efficient as possible.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Q-<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0 \u00a0I am currently running Wonderware InTouch and ACP ThinManager and have a problem with InTouch crashing and ThinManager not detecting it. \u00a0When it crashes it displays a green screen and ThinManager AppLink does not detect the crash so it doesn&#8217;t restart InTouch. \u00a0Is there a way for ThinManager to detect and restart the application when it hangs or crashes?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>A &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0Create a batch file and name it whatever you want.\u00a0 InTouchWatchdog.bat for instance.\u00a0 This is the program you will use in AppLink instead of view.exe.\u00a0 In that file include the following:<\/p>\n<p><code><strong>start \/wait Path\\to\\Intouch\\View.exe<\/strong><\/code><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><code><strong>shutdown \/f \/l<\/strong><\/code><\/p>\n<p>That will log-off the session if view ends.\u00a0 Once the session is logged off, the thin client will then start a new session.<\/p>\n<p>-TM<\/p>\n<p>__________________<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Q-<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0We are in the process of \u00a0upgrading our Windows Server to Version 2008 R2 X64. \u00a0Can I continue to use my ThinManager version 5.0 or will I need to upgrade or download a patch?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>A \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0 There is no issue. \u00a0ThinManager\u00a0Version 4 SP3 (as well as anything beyond) may be used on Windows Server 2008r2 x64.<\/p>\n<div>-TM<\/div>\n<p>__________________<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Q-<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0I installed UltraVNC on a laptop and connected it to our firewall via specific open port to connect to the ThinServer and allow for Shadowing. \u00a0 \u00a0I am wondering about the security risk of open ports in the firewall. \u00a0What would keep a deviant employee from getting something off the internet that allows them to send keyboard strokes or mouse movements to a thin client?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>A \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0ThinServer has a couple of behind the scenes security authentication measures built in to prevent unauthorized access.
