But some updates can functionally change how machines communicate or interact with third-party software. If third parties and businesses using that combination of server and software aren\u2019t prepared, updates can have very negative effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Microsoft is releasing multiple Windows cumulative updates\nto address a vulnerability in DCOM. The Microsoft patch increases the minimum\nauthentication level used when establishing DCOM connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is DCOM?<\/strong><br>DCOM stands for&nbsp;Distributed Component Object Model. DCOM is a protocol for exposing application objects using&nbsp;remote procedure calls (RPCs).&nbsp;DCOM is used for communication between the software components of networked devices.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How do the DCOM hardening changes affect you and your ThinManager\u00ae configuration and installation?<br><\/strong>Great News! ThinManager\u00ae has already addressed the DCOM hardening and updated our software from ThinManager Version 11 and up to secure that these changes will not affect our customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For those customers current on their Software Maintenance\nplan with ThinManager, a simple upgrade to a supported version of ThinManager\nwill make sure that you are not affected by the Microsoft DCOM hardening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your organization is not current on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thinmanager.com\/software-maintenance\/\"><strong>Software Maintenance<\/strong><\/a><strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>does not have access to ThinManager Version 11 or higher<strong>,<\/strong>\u00a0or is simply unsure\u2014we can help with that.
